World population to reach 8 billion on November 15- estimates UN
On July 11, the UN announced that it anticipates the world’s population to reach 8 billion on November 15 of this year and that India will surpass China as the world’s most populous country the following year.
According to the study, which was published on World Population Day, the rate of population growth worldwide slowed to its lowest level since 1950 in 2020 and fell below 1%.
The world’s population could reach 8.5 billion people in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050, and a peak of about 10.4 billion during the 2080s, according to the most recent U.N. projections. It is anticipated that it will stay there until 2100.
Due to the arrival of the eighth billion human beings on Earth, 2022 has been dubbed a “milestone year” by U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The report, World Population Prospects 2022, put the population at 7.942 billion and forecasts it will reach 8 billion on November 15th.
This is an occasion to celebrate our diversity, recognize our common humanity, and marvel at advancements in health that have extended lifespans and dramatically reduced maternal and child mortality rates, Guterres said in a statement. At the same time, it is a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for our planet and a moment to reflect on where we still fall short of our commitments to one another.
The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs predicted that global population growth is currently occurring at its slowest rate since 1950.
While several developing nations are seeing a net decline in birth rates, the report predicted that eight countries will account for more than half of the increase in global population over the next few decades.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Tanzania, according to the report, are among them.
