Mortified About the Dark Skin Around your Mouth? Shed it Off in These 5 Simple Steps

Here are some of the most efficient and easy ways to lighten the dark skin around your mouth

Pigmentation and discoloration around the mouth are quite common and are caused mainly due to hyperpigmentation. Although not harmful, hyperpigmentation can be really annoying.

The skin around your mouth is thin and is generally more susceptible to getting damaged. For the folks at the back, the deeper layers of epidermis produce melanin, a pigment that’s responsible for giving the skin its colour. An ideal ratio of melanin is important for protecting the skin from harmful sun rays and other chemicals. But excessive amounts of melanin can also result in skin pigmentation and black spots.

High amounts of melanin around the mouth can be caused due to various reasons, including extreme sun exposure, hormonal changes caused during pregnancy, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or sudden climate changes around you.

It happens to a lot of people and most of them try to cover it up with layers of makeup. But now it’s time to put an end to it! Here are some of the most efficient and easy ways to lighten the dark skin around your mouth:

1. Lemon Mixed with Curd/Honey

As you might already know, lemon has some great natural bleaching properties and it can help in increasing collagen. Mixing lemon with curd and honey can increase its antioxidant properties. Mix a few drops of lemon with curd or honey, make a thick paste and apply it on the dark areas. Once it gets dried, rinse your face with normal running water.

2. A Scrub-Mask Made of Gram Flour

Well, gram flour has been one of the age-old remedies for flawless and glowing skin. Gram flour absorbs the excessive oil in the skins and adds a natural glow to it. To make a natural gram flour scrub, add some gram flour, a small pinch of turmeric and raw milk. Mix the ingredients and make a thick paste. Apply it on the dark areas and wash it off with cold water once it gets dried.

3. Onion Juice

Although it produces an awful smell, but we cannot deny the excellent antioxidant properties of onion. It helps in brightening the skin cells and also, reduces the signs of ageing to a great extent. Take some fresh onion juice, add some water. Dip a cotton ball into it and dab it on the affected areas. Let it dry for some time and wash it off with normal water.

4. Potato

This isn’t even a secret anymore! Potato is an excellent skin lightening agent. It’s extremely rich in vitamins and minerals. It helps in reducing blemishes, dark spots and pigmentation. Grate some potato or take some finely chopped slices and massage it over the affected areas for 3-5 minutes. Let it dry and wash it off with cold water.

You can use these remedies once a week. But in case you notice that the dark spots are spreading even after using the remedies, we’d recommend you to your dermatologist for further treatment.
