Apple iPhones running iOS 11 and previous versions will not receive WhatsApp upgrades

Later this year, WhatsApp is anticipated to stop providing upgrades to handsets running earlier versions of iOS. Any iPhone model that is now running iOS 10 or iOS 11 will be required to upgrade to iOS 12. This would effect iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c phones that are 5 years old or older. The Meta Platforms app’s FAQ section has also been updated to provide a list of supported mobile operating systems.
The app will continue to work with Android 4.1 and above, as well as KaiOS 2.5.0 and later. Feature phones like the JioPhone and JioPhone 2 use the later operating system. The updated compatibility requirements appear to affect primarily iOS devices at this time. WhatsApp was able to analyze its active user data as well as the devices on which the account is active. Only a small fraction of total active users are still using previous versions of the app. Older iOS versions are also supported on these devices. As a result, Apple has chosen to exclusively support devices running iOS 12 and above in the future. This news arrives just weeks before Apple’s developer conference, WWDC.
According to a new post by WABetaInfo, the corporation is also experimenting with a new emoji reply function. When users transmit several photos and videos in the conversation at the same time, they are combined into an album display. If someone responds with an emoji, you’ll have to explore the album to see which photo received the response. The software also provides a summary of the number of distinct reactions and their numbers.

The company is now offering a faster and easier way to view the reactions, their count, and the picture or media against which they were received. While the functionality is currently being tested on the iOS beta, we may anticipate it to be available on Android and WhatsApp desktop in the near future.
Users must also update to the most recent version of the mobile operating system, according to the corporation. This is in order to address the device’s critical security updates. Some functionality may not be available on older operating systems. Users will be told well in advance of the firm ceasing updates, according to WhatsApp. Users will also receive reminders, as shown in the picture.
