The Haj Committee of India has opened the online application window for candidates interested in serving as Hajj Inspectors during the 2027 pilgrimage. Eligible candidates can submit their applications from August 13, while the last date to apply is August 27, 2026.
The inspectors will play an important role in assisting and guiding Indian pilgrims during Hajj. According to the Uttar Pradesh Haj Committee, the current guideline provides for one Hajj Inspector for every 135 pilgrims. The final requirement of inspectors from Uttar Pradesh will be known after August 17, when selected pilgrims are expected to deposit their first instalment.
Government Employees Can Apply
Mohammad Tariq, Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Haj Committee, said employees and teachers working in government-aided madrasas in the state can also apply, provided they meet all the eligibility requirements.
Candidates must be Sunni Muslim men or women and should have a bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution. They must also be permanent employees of either the Central or State Government.
The maximum age limit is 50 years as on August 13, 2026.
Candidates who can communicate in multiple languages, particularly Hindi, Urdu, English, Arabic and the relevant local language, will receive preference.
Knowledge of Hajj and Technology Is Required
Applicants should be physically and mentally fit and must have adequate computer skills. Familiarity with the Hajj Suvidha App is also among the requirements.
Apart from administrative abilities, candidates are expected to have proper knowledge of the rituals and procedures associated with Hajj. They should also be capable of handling and guiding large groups of pilgrims.
Applicants who have received an adverse report from the Consul General of India, the Haj Committee of India or a State Haj Committee in previous years will not be considered for selection.
Senior Government Officials Not Eligible
The eligibility rules exclude Group A/Class I officers and employees working at Pay Level 10 or above under the Seventh Pay Commission. Employees holding equivalent positions in state governments are also excluded.
Eligible applicants will have to submit the required documents along with their online forms.
Application Dates and Website
The application process will officially begin on August 13, 2026, and candidates can submit their forms until August 27, 2026.
Applications will have to be submitted online through the official Haj Committee of India website. Offline forms will not be accepted.
Candidates are required to upload the prescribed documents and forms along with their applications. An employer-issued No Objection Certificate (NOC) is also required.
If a candidate does not have the NOC at the time of application, an undertaking can be submitted stating that the document will be produced during the interview.
After completing the online application, candidates will also have to submit a hard copy to the concerned office either personally or through post.
How Will Hajj Inspectors Be Selected?
The selection process will consist of a computer-based examination followed by an interview or personality assessment.
The examination will carry 170 marks, while the interview/personality test will carry 30 marks.
If applications exceed the number of available positions, selection may also involve a lottery system as specified in the recruitment guidelines.
Candidates should carefully check the official circular issued by the Haj Committee on August 11 before applying. They should also refer to the official website for the latest information regarding examination and interview dates.
Training to Be Held in Mumbai
Candidates selected for the Hajj Inspector role are expected to undergo a two-day training programme in Mumbai during the second week of October 2026.
The deputation period for selected State Hajj Inspectors is expected to be around two months. During this period, they will continue to receive their regular salary and applicable allowances from their parent department.
Details related to their deputation will also be entered into their official service records.
Passport Validity Is Mandatory
Candidates applying for the position must have an international passport valid until December 31, 2027.
Another important condition relates to previous Hajj-related assignments. Candidates who have already served three or more times as Sakha-ul-Hujjaj or State Hajj Inspectors will not be eligible to apply this year.
Seats Reserved Under Different Categories
The recruitment guidelines also include specific provisions for different categories of applicants.
Around 25% of the available seats will be reserved for candidates who have shown notable performance while working as State Hajj Inspectors or during Hajj deputation in the previous five years.
Some positions have also been earmarked for eligible candidates who have already performed Hajj. Certain seats are reserved for eligible permanent employees of Haj Committees and Waqf Boards.
The remaining 50% of seats will be available to candidates who fulfil the prescribed eligibility criteria.
With the application window opening on August 13, prospective candidates should carefully review the eligibility rules and required documents before submitting their forms. The Haj Committee has also emphasised that the selection process will follow the prescribed rules and transparency standards.
