POLITICS IS IN NEW-LOW OVER IMPEACHMENT

It is for the first time ever in the Indian history. Congress-led opposition has initiated the impeachment process against the honorary Chief Justice of India. Congress may find it to be their biggest ambush, though. It still remains the party’s trivial move to have a political mileage and has also underestimated the democracy.
In creating an anti-Modi campaign, Congress, who has been blabbering about the opposition’s unity and the “mahagathbandhan” since long, gave up and has splitted on this political drama. The former PM Manmohan Singh, Virappa Mauyeli, P. Chidambaram, Salman Khurshid and alike big shots are neither convinced with the gravity of the petition nor have given their signatories to the motion.
While Congress could only convince merely 6 parties out of the total 18 parties featuring the future “mahagathbandhan”, of which a good number of notable members have also denied for their signatures on the notice, parties like Trinamool Congress, Telugu Desham Party, Biju Janta Dal and DRAMUK who have a good enough strength in both the houses have denied the support to the motion. And with this, the opposition’s gambit in its prideful “unity” breathed its last under vivid political interests.
Well, this is the real picture of the opposition’s much anticipated unity!
But, the usage of the impeachment process as just a mere political tool, is the fact that remains more unfortunate for us; it has challenged “the never questioned” honorable judiciary!
First of all, the spokesperson is not bound to accept the notice because there is no such provision to remove a judge. Moreover, he can, undoubtedly slam, the petition. Secondly, BJP and its alliances have a powerful presence in the upper house and so even if the entire opposition clubs to pass the motion, it is bound to fail. Infact, BJP is capable to shun the motion even with its own majority in the Lok Sabha. Anyways, there is no relevance of the notice in the Lok Sabha, if it is terminated in the Rajya Sabha itself.
And lastly, whatever allegations on the CJI have been raised in the notice, do not suffice the two major pre- requisites for the impeachment process, i.e., inability and misconduct of the judge. It is quite obvious that Congress has once again demonstrated its immaturity and short-sightedness in initiating the impeachment motion.
Congress, being a national political party will face what kind of consequences, remains an entirely different matter. But, its bizarre step has definitely affected the judiciary’s believers and its image and as a country India too.
