Local Politicians Team up to Challenge Russian President Vladimir Putin Amid Russia’s Military Failures

Russian President Vladimir Putin has spent decades building his political image as one of the strongest foreign policy strategists in the history of Russia. But amid military failures and major setbacks, the image of Putin has gone up for a toss.

The current situation in Russia has posed a bigger problem for the position of Russian President. The local politicians have teamed up to challenge the will of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the sources, On September 9, two groups of municipal councillors in Moscow and St. Petersburg called for the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, to step down. The municipal council at Moscow and St. Petersburg mentioned that the President, in their view, had failed.

Furthermore, the municipal council of Smolninskoye sent an official letter to the lower house of Parliament, the Duma, demanding the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, to be dismissed from his position.

The municipal council of Smolninskoye made a mention of the Ukraine war in the letter and said, “The war of Ukraine is now affecting the security of Russia, its economy and its citizens.”

The council of Smolninskoye further demanded removal of the president from the office for ‘treason’ under Article 93 of the Indian constitution.

According to the reports, municipal councillors from the Lomonosov district of Moscow have also sent a letter to the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, who has been in power for 22 years, asking him to resign.

A part of the letter read “Studies show that people in countries where power changes hands regularly live, on average, better and longer than in countries where the leader only leaves office when they are carried out.”

Dmitry Palyuga, a member of the Smolninskoye municipal council, responded to the call for Putin’s resignation and said, “We wanted to target some people who supported Putin before and now they feel betrayed.”

Palyuga further mentioned that the Russian army is being defeated and destroyed in Ukraine. The member of the Smolninskoye municipal council further claimed that the Russian army had earlier lost its people and weapons and has now lost its ability to defend and the Russian propaganda can’t really hide it.
