Most importantly, it can help you with reducing stress and boost your focus and concentration level. When it comes to strengthening your metabolism, Yoga can be a game changer. Yoga, if added to your daily morning routine, can help you in making a transformational shift in your life.
Before diving into the Yoga Asanas that are considered ideal to rev up and boost your metabolism, we would recommend you practice these Yoga Asanas on an empty stomach. Let’s get started:
1. Mukha Dhouti.
Here’s what it is:
Dhouti is one of the Shatkarmas. It is commonly called a yogic system of bodily purification. It aims to detox and clean the entire digestive tract and has a great impact on the respiratory system, the external ears and the eyes as well. Mukha Dhouti primarily helps in synchronising the breath.
Here’s how we do it:
1. Stand in a relaxed state. Don’t keep your body rigid.
2. Keep your legs a width apart.
3. Bend forward, slightly.
4. Place your hand above your knees after you bend.
5. Deeply inhale through your nostrils, contract your abdominal muscles and pelvic floor muscles while you inhale.
6. Exhale forcefully through your mouth, release the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor muscles when you exhale.
7. Repeat this 8-10 times.
2. Agni sara
Here’s what it is:
This Yoga Asana helps in boosting your immune system and improves digestion. Moreover, it increases the body temperature and helps the body to burn off the toxins. Agni Sara literally means ‘washing away the fire’ which is present at the centre of the navel.
Here’s how we do it:
1. Sit down with your legs crossed.
2. Inhale through your nostrils and all your stomach in and out while you’re retaining your breath.
3. Exhale forcefully through your mouth and release the belly.
4. Repeat it 8-10 times.
5. Come back to a relaxed breathing pattern after you’re done.
3. Bhastrika: bellows breath
Here’s what it is:
Bhastrika is a classical breathing technique used in Yoga. This is also addressed as one of the primary life aids. It is used to boost the metabolism and increase the intellect. Most importantly, it helps you to declutter your mind.
Here’s how we do it:
1 Sit down with crossed legs, in a relaxed state.
2. Inhale forcefully through your nostrils and raise your arms while you inhale. Keep your palms open.
3. Retain your breath for 5-6 seconds
4. Exhale forcefully through your mouth and lower your arms while you exhale. Close your fist.
6. Breathe through your chest, not through your abdomen during the kriya.
7. Repeat this 7-8 times.
According to the Yoga experts, these Asanas can really help you in boosting your metabolism and give an energetic kick start to your day.
However, if you’re pregnant or suffering from high blood pressure or any heart disease, these Asanas are not recommended for you. If you’re suffering from any pre-existing heart condition, we’d recommend you perform the Asanas under the supervision of an experienced yoga teacher or instructor.
