Bihar CM Nitish Kumar calls for meeting of JD(U) leaders amid talk of split with BJP

According to reports, the BJP has been ignoring Nitish for months. This growing schism has raised several questions. The biggest of them all, the NDA alliance in Bihar, will fail.

According to sources, the JD(U)-BJP coalition in Bihar is on the verge of dissolving. According to reports, the JD(U) is seeking alliances with the RJD, Congress, and the Left Front in order to maintain its hold on power in the state, as the majority of its MLAs oppose midterm elections.

JD-U leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said on Saturday that the JD(U) had decided not to join the Narendra Modi government at the Centre after the BJP rejected its demand for two ministerial berths.

“We are not going to join the Narendra Modi cabinet. The JD-U needed the desired respect from the BJP but it did not happen. Hence we have decided to avoid inclusion in the Narendra Modi government.” However, he added that this decision “will not affect our alliance with BJP in Bihar”.

Besides the JD-U, Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) also called for a similar meeting on August 9. The meeting will be held at the official residence of party chief Jitan Ram Manjhi in Patna.
