Tata Group is in Talks with Wistron: Likely to Manufacture iPhones in India
According to a Bloomberg report, Tata group is in preliminary talks with Wistron Corp, a Taiwanese company, to manufacture and assemble Apple’s iPhone in India for the first time.

Apple Inc., headquartered in Cupertino, is planning to produce iPhone 14 in India. Reports suggest that Apple Inc. is all set to work with suppliers to construct and assemble it’s new iPhone 14 in India.
In an attempt to ramp up the manufacturing of the iPhone 14, the Cupertino-based Apple Inc. is initiating a new manufacturing line in India to reduce its dependence on China, which is currently a principal maker of iPhone worldwide. Apple Inc. currently has a few Indian manufacturing partners who manufacture iPhones for the company including Wistron, Foxconn and Pegatron.
According to a Bloomberg report, Tata group is in preliminary talks with Wistron Corp, a Taiwanese company, to manufacture and assemble Apple’s iPhone in India for the first time. The Tata group is keenly interested in seeking Wistron’s expertise in product development and to turn itself into a new industry giant in technology manufacturing.
Currently, the Apple handsets are assembled by industry giants like Wistron and Foxconn in China and India. If Wistron and the Tata group are able to lock in the deal, the manufacturing capacity of Wistron would be boosted by at least five times their current output in India.
Additionally, if the Tata group is able to lock up the deal with Wistron, the other global electronics brands would also start considering India for assembling their devices, reducing their reliance on China, which is a home to the major global electronics brands and a principal maker of iPhones worldwide, today. According to the sources, a partnership between Wistron and the Tata group would also result in Tata group obtaining a share of Wistron’s manufacturing business.
However, Cupertino-based Apple Inc. hasn’t given a green flag to the Tata group yet on the manufacturing of the iPhone. According to the reports, it is unclear whether Apple Inc. is even aware of Wistron Corp’s discussions with the Tata group. On the other hand, Tata group has also refused to comment on the news.
If successful, the pact might make Tata group the first Indian business to manufacture the iPhone in India.
