Some of the country’s biggest sports broadcasters competed for the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights for the next five-year cycle from 2023 to 2027. Two broadcasters have secured the TV and digital rights separately after heated bidding, according to sources.
The pricing for Package A (TV rights) and Package B (Digital rights), according to sources, have been set at Rs 44,075 crore. This means that each IPL match is worth more than Rs 100 crore, which is unprecedented in Indian sports. The current fee for each IPL match is Rs 107.5 crore, according cricket sources.
The agreement is for 410 matches over five years, according to sources. The television rights went for Rs 23,575 crore, while the digital rights went for Rs 20,500 crore.
With a bid of Rs 16,347.50 crore in September 2017, Star India beat down Sony Pictures to get the Indian Premier League’s media freedoms for the 2017-2022 season. The expense of an IPL match had ascended to generally Rs 55 crore because of this understanding.
With a bid of Rs 8200 crore in 2008, Sony Pictures Network secured the IPL media rights for a ten-year period. In 2015, Novi Digital was given the worldwide computerized freedoms to the IPL for a three-year term for 302.2 crore.
This year, the tournament was extended from eight to ten teams, with the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants joining in 2022. Last month, the Gujarat Titans won the event for the first time.
