Google Pixel 11 Series Takes Aim at Apple in India With AI, Premium Hardware and a Bigger Ecosystem

Google is making a more aggressive push into India’s premium smartphone market with the launch of its Pixel 11 lineup, putting artificial intelligence at the centre of its strategy.

The company has introduced four smartphones: the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Alongside the phones, Google has also expanded its ecosystem with the new Pixel Watch 5 and other connected products.

The latest Pixel generation brings upgraded cameras, longer battery life, the Tensor G6 processor and a new set of AI-powered capabilities. Google has also doubled the minimum storage on the series to 256GB.

Google’s Pixel 11 Strategy Goes Beyond Hardware

At first glance, the Pixel 11 lineup may look like an incremental hardware update. The phones retain much of the design language of their predecessors, although Google has introduced brighter colour options and a new hardware feature called HiLight.

HiLight is an ambient LED system positioned near the redesigned camera bar. It can be used for notifications as well as interactions with Google’s Gemini AI.

The bigger change, however, is happening inside the software.

All four Pixel 11 models are powered by the Tensor G6 chip and Titan M3 security chip and run Android 17. Google’s new Gemini Intelligence system is designed to make AI more proactive rather than simply responding to individual prompts.

Pixel 11 Brings Agentic AI to the Forefront

Google wants Gemini to do more than answer questions. The company is building AI capabilities that can interact with applications and complete multi-step tasks with user approval.

For example, Gemini can potentially turn a grocery list into a ready-to-order shopping basket, find a textbook list in an email and help order the required books, or interact with services such as Calendar and the browser.

The system prepares actions before handing control back to the user for final confirmation.

This agentic approach could become one of the biggest differentiators for the Pixel 11 series, particularly as Google looks to compete with Apple in the premium smartphone segment.

Pixel 11 Series: Key Hardware Upgrades

The standard Pixel 11 comes with a 6.3-inch Actua display offering up to 3,000 nits of brightness. It has 12GB of RAM, a 48MP main camera and 30x Super Zoom.

The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL move to larger 6.8-inch Super Actua displays with brightness reaching 3,600 nits. Their camera systems include a 50MP main sensor and up to 120x Pro Zoom, along with Instant Night Sight.

Google also claims more than 30 hours of battery life for the Pro models, while the Pro XL can reach a 75% charge in around 30 minutes.

Another major change is storage. The entire Pixel 11 lineup starts with 256GB, twice the minimum capacity offered by the previous generation.

Pixel 11 Pro Fold Takes Aim at Premium Foldables

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is Google’s most ambitious model in the new lineup.

It features an 8-inch Super Actua Flex inner display that Google says is 20% brighter than the previous generation, alongside a 6.4-inch outer display.

The foldable comes with 16GB of RAM and a 48MP camera system with 30x Super Zoom. Google has also introduced productivity-focused features including Split Screen, Drag and Drop and Bubble windows for running apps such as Gemini, Calendar and the browser in floating windows.

The company claims the new foldable is three times more durable than its predecessor and has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Pixel 11 Prices Rise in India

Google is launching the Pixel 11 family at higher prices in India, with the increase coming amid rising memory component costs linked partly to growing AI demand.

Model Starting Price in India
Pixel 11 ₹89,999
Pixel 11 Pro ₹1,19,999
Pixel 11 Pro XL ₹1,34,999
Pixel 11 Pro Fold ₹1,86,999

The standard Pixel 11 is ₹10,000 more expensive than its predecessor’s starting price.

The pricing puts Google into an even more direct contest with Apple and Samsung, particularly as Indian consumers become increasingly cautious about spending on premium smartphones.

Can Google Really Challenge Apple in India?

That remains the biggest question surrounding the Pixel 11 launch.

Google still has a relatively small presence in India’s overall smartphone market, with Pixel accounting for less than 1% of shipments. However, the brand has been growing quickly in the ultra-premium segment.

According to Counterpoint Research data cited in the report, Pixel recorded 68% year-on-year growth in the above-₹45,000 segment in recent quarters.

Apple, meanwhile, remains considerably stronger in terms of brand recognition, retail presence, resale value and ecosystem loyalty.

Google has been investing heavily in India through marketing, retail expansion and partnerships, including significant visibility around the IPL. The company is now attempting to turn Pixel from a niche premium smartphone brand into a broader ecosystem.

Memory Shortage Could Make the Battle Tougher

The Pixel 11 launch comes at a difficult time for the smartphone industry.

Demand for memory chips has increased significantly as AI development drives data-centre and computing requirements. Higher component costs are consequently putting pressure on smartphone manufacturers.

Interestingly, Google has reduced RAM in the base versions of the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL to 12GB, compared with 16GB in the previous generation.

That could become relevant as Google increasingly promotes on-device AI and third-party AI applications.

Pixel Watch 5 Expands Google’s Ecosystem

Google is also trying to strengthen its ecosystem beyond smartphones with the Pixel Watch 5.

The smartwatch focuses heavily on health and fitness tracking, with new sensors designed to monitor blood pressure patterns and insulin resistance trends. It also integrates with Google Health and brings Gemini capabilities to the wrist.

Other features include dual-frequency GPS, satellite SOS communications, faster processing and up to 40 hours of battery life.

The Pixel Watch 5 starts at ₹42,900 in India.

Google has also announced plans to bring Fitbit Air to India in October.

Pixel 11’s India Test Begins on August 20

The Pixel 11 series and Pixel Watch 5 are scheduled to go on sale globally, including in India, from August 20.

Google enters this new generation with strong momentum in India but also faces a much more difficult pricing environment.

The Pixel 11’s biggest advantage may not be its hardware alone. Google is betting that deeper Gemini integration, computational photography and a connected ecosystem can persuade premium smartphone buyers to look beyond Apple and Samsung.

Whether that strategy can translate Pixel’s rapid recent growth into a meaningful challenge to Apple will become clearer once the new phones reach consumers.
