Madras HC stops execution of Sterlite plant in Tuticorin

Tamil Nadu : Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has stayed the extension of Sterlite Plant in Tuticorin. The Home Ministry has sought a report from the Tamil Nadu Government on Tuticorin Police Firing.
In Tuticorin of Tamilnadu, the number of people killed in violent demonstrations has increased to 12 due to the demand for closure of Vedanta group company Sterlite. The administration has imposed section 144 on the spot, whereas more than 2,000 policemen have been sent from neighboring districts for protection.
On Wednesday, the administration has not given permission for the operation of public transport. On the other hand, trade unions have called for a strike.
