MP: Minor girl brutally gang-raped, killed by her cousins; grandmother who tried to intervene also raped
The victim visited her uncle’s home in Jabalpur on August 11. After a few days, two of her cousins allegedly attacked her. Before being admitted to a private hospital on August 19, she was allegedly sexually assaulted, raped and thrashed by her cousins.
Another horrifying incident occurred when a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and beaten to death by her two cousins in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district. When the victim’s grandmother came to her aid, one of the suspects raped her as well, according to police.
On August 11, the victim went to her uncle’s house in Jabalpur. Two of her cousins allegedly attacked her after a few days. Her cousins allegedly sexually assaulted, raped, and thrashed her before she was admitted to a private hospital on August 19, according to news outlet India Today. The following day, she passed away and was buried in Jabalpur.
The victim’s father reported to police on Tuesday that his daughter had been raped and thrashed by her two cousins, according to ASP Jabalpur Pradeep Kumar. The victim’s father also claimed that one of the accused raped his mother, according to the ASP.
On Tuesday, police exhumed the victim’s body. According to India Today, a medical examination of the grandmother revealed evidence of rape.
The victim’s cousins have been charged with rape under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. One of the defendants has been apprehended, while the other is still at large.
There is an investigation going on. The private hospital staff who treated the victim is currently being questioned by police.
