Virat Kohli Becomes the First-Ever Cricketer in the World to Fetch 50 Million Twitter Followers

The star captain of the Indian cricket team continues to reign supreme in the world of social media and became the first ever cricketer in the world to fetch 50 million followers on Twitter.

Although the last three years have been quite testing for the star cricketer, he has consistently performed below par on the cricket field, faced brutal criticism and merciless trolls for his poor performance on the field. Despite all the criticism, the king has managed to remain a superstar on social media.

Virat Kohli has now become the most followed cricketer in the world and the third most followed athlete, globally. Cristiano Ronaldo stands at first with 476 million followers, followed by Lionel Messi with 356 million followers. Virat Kohli has a whopping 211 million followers on Instagram and over 45 million followers on Facebook.

Kohli returned to his form during the Asia Cup 2022. The cricketer finished off the tournament in an impeccable style, becoming the second highest run-getter. Kohli became India’s leading scorer and scored two fifties and his 71st century while he just concluded Asia Cup 2022. Kohli scored his last century in November 2019. The cricketer ended his wait of 1019 days with much anticipated 71st century.

After storming back into form and scoring his 71st century, Virat Kohli revealed that he didn’t touch his bat for one month before the tournament. This happened for the first time since Virat Kohli started playing professional cricket.

In his interaction with the media after hitting 12 boundaries and 6 sixes, he said “I know there was a lot of stuff going on the outside, but they really kept my perspective right and I kissed my ring in the celebrations as well. You see me standing like this right now and all the things being put in perspective have been done by one person, who stood by me through all these difficult times, that is Anushka.” He added “This hundred is specially dedicated to her and our little daughter Vamika as well. When you have someone next to you, having conversations, putting things in the right perspective like I have been and Anushka has been by my side through these times, time away from the game has made me think about a lot of things.”
