Gavaskar made a ‘disgusting’ comment about Shimron Hetmyer’s wife during Rajasthan Royals’ match against Chennai Super Kings on Friday (May 20), which did not go over well with the fans. Hetmyer had recently left the RR bio-bubble to attend his first child’s birth.
The game against CSK marked his return to the starting lineup, and he batted at number six. When the Caribbean dasher arrived, the Royals needed 47 runs off 31 balls, and the game was still close. That’s when Gavaskar tried to be humorous and ended up making a controversial statement that shocked the internet.
“Hetmyer’s wife gave birth; will Hetmyer now give birth for the Royals?” During the commentary, Gavaskar was overheard stating. Fans slammed Gavaskar on social media for making such a comment. Several cricket fans even asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ban him from commentating.
