Former Australian fast bowler Mitchell criticised the Indian selectors for picking only four specialist bowlers for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday (September 12) announced the squad of Men in blue.
People who follow the sport are on cloud 9 as Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have recovered from injury and are making a much-awaited comeback in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
The Australian fast bowler called India’s squad of bowlers ‘a bit risky’. The selectors picked, Arshdeep, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandy, Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal in India’s squad of pacers.
Mitchell Johnson, Australian fast bowler, criticised the decision of the selectors and responded “If you have got an all-rounder (fast bowling) and a couple of spinners, four fast bowlers, it is a bit of a risk. But India are probably looking at playing two pacers and an all-rounder (Hardik Pandya) and two spinners.”
The bowler, who is taking part in Legends League Cricket, also made a mention of the 2013-14 Ashes. He discussed how, during the 2013-2014 Ashes, he was called the fastest bowler and how Peter Siddle and Ryan Harris, being medium pacers, still complemented him during the 2013-14 Ashes.
The Australian bowler asserted the significance of striking the team balance and mentioned that if a bowler in a team is already capable of bowling 145plus, there’s no need to have another player bowling at the same pace in the team.
Focusing on the team spirit, Mitchell Johnson said, the boys should back each other up and work together. He added “In Australia, it’s all about the extra pace and bounce, and adjusting your length.”
Mohammad Shami, a skilful bowler, has been kept on standby. This has come out as a shocker to the passionate followers of the game. As the Indian selectors bestowed faith on the quartet led by Jasprit Bumrah with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel in its ranks.
In his concluding statement, Mitchel Johnson, said, “In the Indian set-up, only Bumrah is the man who can consistently clock 140 clicks upwards, but pace can’t be the only criteria to form a potent bowling unit.”
