Indian Men’s Compound Team Wins Gold at Archery World Cup

On Saturday, the Indian men’s compound archery team recovered from behind to beat France by two points in an exciting finish to earn gold in two World Cup stages.

In a repeat of the Stage 1 final, Abhishek Verma, Aman Saini, and Rajat Chauhan’s fourth-seeded men’s team trailed their sixth-seeded opponents in the first two ends.

But, thanks to a flawless third-place finish, the trio won the World Cup Stage 2 gold by a score of 232-230 against their French rivals Adrien Gontier, Jean Philippe Boulch, and Qentin Baraer.

The same Indian trio defeated France by one point in the last World Cup final in April in Antalya.

In the mixed team event, star Indian compound archer Verma and Avneet Kaur beat higher-seeded Turkish compound archers Amircan Haney and Ayse Bera Suzer 156-155 to take bronze.

Kaur had already won a team bronze in the women’s event, therefore this was her second bronze medal.

The sixth-seeded Indian duo trailed by 2 points in the second end (77-79) after its fourth-seeded opponents shot four 10s, including three Xs (closer to the centre).

Verma and Kaur reduce the deficit to one point in the third end, shooting 39/40, then finished with a bang in the fourth end, shooting four 10s and one X.
