‘I believe Virat will rediscover form in the Asia Cup,’ said Sourav Ganguly of Kohli’s comeback after a dismal tour of England

Virat Kohli is poised to return to play in the continental event and has been working hard behind the scenes as well.

Virat Kohli hasn’t been in the greatest of form, and a streak of poor scores in previous matches hasn’t helped. The former India captain failed to impress the fans during India’s last visit to England, therefore he boycotted the away series against the West Indies and Zimbabwe. In the two One-Day Internationals he played in England, he only scored 33 runs. In Tests, he scored only 31 runs in two innings and was dismissed on 1 and 11 in two Twenty20 Internationals.

With the squad preparing for the Asia Cup, the 33-year-old is expected to return to play in the continental event while also working hard behind the scenes. Sourav Ganguly, President of the BCCI, is also confident about Kohli regaining his lost mojo in the competition. “Let him practise and play matches.” He’s a huge guy who’s scored a lot of runs. I am hoping he will make a comeback. He’s just not scoring centuries, and I feel he’ll recover his form at the Asia Cup,” Ganguly said in an interview with Sports Tak.

Kohli’s bat has been silent for a long time, with his most recent century coming in the famous pink-ball Test against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2019. The right-handed hitter did accomplish a couple of half-centuries along the way, but the tonne is what fans had been waiting for.

More specifically, Kohli would like to settle a personal score with Pakistan in the next Asia Cup match in Dubai, the first since India’s devastating loss at the T20 World Cup last year. The Indian team was then defeated by the archrivals by 10 wickets at the same location, headed by Kohli.

But much has changed in the Indian camp since then. Ravi Shastri has stepped down as coach, and Rahul Dravid has taken his place. The leadership has also been given to Rohit Sharma, who will want to make a solid start to the Asian Cup campaign.
