Star Sports has collaborated with NODWIN Gaming to broadcast the BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI) Masters Series event in Hindi, Tamil, and English from June 24th to July 17th, 2022. In India, esports is a rapidly rising segment that has risen to prominence in the previous two years. “Esports has huge potential for growth in India when compared to its standing in established areas around the world,” Sanjog Gupta, head of sports at Disney Star, said. In the ecosystem, it’s also gaining popularity as a competitive sport. Esports events have already developed a cult following on digital platforms. Star Sports is continuously exploring for innovative ways to engage fans, galvanise communities, and recruit new audiences as the foremost site for sports lovers. Our collaboration with Nodwin Gaming aims to change the future of Esports in India by exposing millions of Indian TV viewers to high-quality competition and famous players. It will, ideally, increase gamers’ interest in Esports and athletes’ aspirations,” he added.

The inclusion of Esports in global multi-sporting events such as the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games demonstrates the sport’s growing importance around the world. As part of this partnership, Star Sports and NODWIN Gaming intend to capitalise on the traditional sports-viewing audience while also exposing the prospect of pursuing a career in Esports to the casual gamers pool across the country. “Throughout the pandemic, we’ve been working nonstop to lay the groundwork for such a massive collaboration.” This is a huge step in the right direction for us, as we now bring Esports to the public. Esports has traditionally been linked to live streaming on internet platforms. We intend to break that mould by collaborating with a prominent sports channel. Satellite television has a number of advantages, including unrivalled coverage across the country, uninterrupted and timely broadcasting that is not reliant on internet connectivity or speed, and affordability for people living in remote places. NODWIN Gaming’s MD and co-founder, Akshat Rathee, remarked, “We look forward to increasing the reach of Esports, building a connection with the youth across India, and introducing Esports into the arena of other traditional sports.”
