Unexpected retirement The West Indies star takes an immediate choice on his future

Deandra Dottin, the West Indies’ top all-rounder, has abruptly quit her career, expressing concern over the team’s environment.

While representing Barbados at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham late on Sunday night, the 31-year-old all-rounder made the announcement on Twitter.

Dottin apologised for the decision in a letter to Cricket West Indies, blaming it on organisational concerns.

“Because cricket has long been a passion of mine, I have given this announcement much consideration.” When the fire dies out, the message says, take some time to evaluate your loyalty.

Throughout my cricket career, I have experienced several hurdles, but the present climate and team culture have not been supportive of my ability to thrive and reignite my passion.

“I realise I am no longer able to adhere to team culture and team atmosphere since it has hurt my capacity to work properly,” the individual stated, “with much grief but without remorse.”

Dottin has played over 260 international games in all white-ball and red-ball forms, amassing over 6000 runs and taking over 130 wickets.

The all-rounder was at her best at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup earlier this year in New Zealand. She showed steely nerves to end the tournament opener with the ball against the hosts before making one of the finest catches in tournament history with a full-stretch dive to her left to dismiss England’s Lauren Winfield-Hill.

The right-hander leaves the West Indies as the team’s second-highest run-scorer in ODIs and T20Is, as well as fourth in wicket-taking in the shorter format.

Dottin is expected to compete for Barbados again in the Commonwealth Games, with the Caribbean squad set to face India on Wednesday in a game that may make or break their campaign.
