Yuzvendra Chahal became the first bowler in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 to take a hat-trick as the leg-spinner delivered a sensational over in a tense high-scoring contest between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
Yuzvendra Chahal picked up 4 wickets in an over, which included his maiden hat-trick in the IPL. The India spinner also picked up his maiden five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5/40 as KKR fell 7 runs short of a 218-run target.
It was a sensational over as Chahal sent back the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, a well-set Shreyas Iyer (85), Shivam Mavi and Pat Cummins. His hat-trick victims were Shreyas, Mavi and Cummins as Chahal used his variations to brilliant effect. The day started with Chahal conceding 17 runs in his first over as KKR were chasing a mammoth 218-run target. However, the leg-spinner came back strong, single-handedly derailing KKR’s chase.Notably, Chahal had missed a hat-trick against Mumbai Indians earlier this season as Karun Nair dropped a catch in the hat-trick ball.Chahal said he thought of bowling a googly to Cummins in the hat-trick ball but that he changed his mind at the moment.
