The Indian women’s cricket team lost a heartbreaking encounter against Australia in Group A at the Commonwealth Games. Renuka Singh Thakur’s four wickets in five overs put India on track to restrict Australia to 154 runs, but Ashleigh Gardner kept her own to help Australia achieve the target with three wickets remaining and one over to spare. Renuka Singh Thakur’s stay, in which she finished with statistics of 4-18, will be remembered for the match.
Alyssa Healy, Meg Lanning, Beth Mooney, and Tahlia McGrath were among the batswomen dismissed by Thakur, breaking Australia’s batting order. And the throw to pull Tahlia McGrath out was hilarious. Renuka’s inswinger was a dream since McGrath concentrated on playing the drive as the ball curled in from the outside drastically.
As a result, there was a substantial gap between the bat and the pad, allowing the ball to rattle the stumps.
In the match between India and Australia, the former batted first and scored 154/8 in 20 overs thanks to skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s 52-run effort and Shafali Verma’s 48-run performance.
However, India was unable to defend the total as Gardner and Grace Harris remained calm on behalf of Australia.
The following Group A encounter between India and Pakistan will take place on Sunday.
