Dinesh Karthik, the Royal Challengers Bangalore wicketkeeper-batsman, has been reprimanded for breaking the IPL code of conduct during their Eliminator match against the Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
In a statement, the IPL said, “Mr Karthik admitted to the Level 1 infraction under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sentence.”
“The match referee’s judgement is decisive and binding for Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct,” it added.
Karthik made a vital 23-ball 37 and put on an unbroken 92-run fifth-wicket stand in 41 balls with Rajat Patidar, who scored 112 not out off 54 balls, including 12 fours and seven sixes, according to the statement.
Dinesh Karthik has been named in India’s squad for the forthcoming T20I series against South Africa at home. Karthik, who has been on the sidelines since India’s semi-final elimination in the 2019 ODI World Cup, was selected after a stellar IPL season for Royal Challengers Bangalore, in which he closed multiple games successfully at a remarkable strike rate.
“I’m really delighted, and I’m quite satisfied… “I have to say, this has been probably my most special comeback, because a lot of people had given up on me,” Karthik said in a video uploaded on RCB’s Twitter account.
Despite his advanced years – he’ll turn 37 next week – Karthik complimented the national selectors and Indian team management for selecting his skillset above all the youthful talent available.
