“DHONI CAN BE 80 AND WOULD STILL PLAY FOR MY TEAM” -AB DE VILLIERS

Amidst the ongoing debate over MS Dhoni’s performance in the Indian side, former veteran South African captain AB de Villiers said if Dhoni can be above 80 years, and in a wheelchair, he would still play for my team.

“You guys are funny. No, I would play MS Dhoni in my team every day of every year. He can be 80, in a wheelchair, and he would still play for my team. He is fantastic I mean look at his record. Do you want to drop a guy like that? You can go ahead by all means. I wouldn’t.” –AB De Villiers

However, Dhoni’s numbers with the bat have not been splendid in the recent past and have prompted opulence of debates and deliberations over his playing position in the side. Despite India’s supremacy in ODI (One-day International cricket), there is an enormous concern as far as the middle-order is concerned and, where Dhoni has been struggling for the last many sessions.

Interestingly, the Former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly had too backed Dhoni’s performance to come well in the World Cup and believe that the ongoing series against the West Indies is a big one for the seasoned campaigner.

“I don’t know what combination they are thinking at. But I’m sure he (Dhoni) will do well in the World Cup. It’s (against West Indies) big series for him.” Saurav Ganguly

According to senior experts, there is no contrast, no replacement for captain cool’s skills. Despite endless debates on replacement & retire options, Dhoni will remain part of blue-team and more importantly to his fast and clever wicket keeping skills and as a mentor to young talents. Although, his present form with the bat has raised a plenty of questions.

Despite these concern over numbers, Dhoni has been as magnificent as ever behind the stumps. Along with it, Dhoni’s experience has also come in handy for the Indian team, especially with his DRS calls and him helping out the young bowlers from behind the stumps.
