Earlier the same tournament was decided to be held in Sri Lanka in the UAE but due to some economic crises, it couldn’t be performed out there.
The match against Pakistan would be the first India fixture in the coming Asia Cup, where Rohit Sharma- led side will face off against Qualifier. There would be a Super 4 Phase, after group stage fixtures, and finally, the best two teams will play for the finals.

At the time of announcing the shifting of the Asia Cup from Sri Lanka to UAE, The Asian Cricket Council President Jay Shah announced that by looking at the prevailing situation in Sri Lanka, the ACC said in a statement that it would be appropriate to relocate the tournament from Sri Lanka to the UAE. The UAE decided to be a new location while Sri Lanka will continue to get hosting rights.
Sri Lanka Cricket chief Shammi Silva said that our team will work closely with the ACC & Emirates Cricket Board to ensure that we still have an exciting edition of the Asia Cup. He said that I completely stand by the ACC’s decision to shift the Asia Cup to UAE considering the current context or magnitude of an event.
The T20 tournament will be played from August 27 to September 11 in UAE.
