Everyone has habits, and none of them are inherently bad. Other habits, such as biting your nails, drinking caffeine too late in the day, or hitting the snooze button too frequently, may not be as beneficial.
Breaking bad habits is difficult, especially if you’ve been doing it for a long time. Which is, we are sharing a few tips to help.you quit your bad habits with ease.
Identify Your Triggers
Remember that identifying triggers is the first step in developing a habit. Identifying the triggers for your habitual behaviours is the first step toward breaking them.Track your habit for a few days to see if it has any patterns.
Focus on what you want to change
Consider why you want to break the habit and any benefits you see as a result of the change. List these reasons to help you think of some you hadn’t considered before. Seeing the list can help you remember the changes you’re trying to make. If you do relapse into the habit, your list will remind you why you want to keep trying.
Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness can assist you in becoming more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and actions. This practise consists of simply observing impulses related to your habit and not judging or reacting to them.
You may find it easier to consider other options as you become more aware of these routine behaviours and the triggers that lead to them, such as avoiding reminder cues or not acting on the urges.
Leave Yourself Reminders
Using stickers, sticky notes, or other visual reminders in locations where the habit behaviour occurs can help you rethink the action when something triggers you. You can also set reminders on your smartphone. Set your alarm and leave yourself a motivating note, such as “Time to turn off the TV!” — remember how good it feels!”
You Don’t Have To Do It Alone
It can be difficult to work through these issues alone, and a therapist or counsellor can provide guidance and support.
It may not appear so at first, but your new habits will become ingrained in your daily life over time. They may eventually feel as natural as your old habits.
