On Saturday, a peddler who may have supplied drugs consumed at the party at Curlies in Goa the night before Haryana BJP leader and actor Sonali Phogat died was arrested in connection with the BJP leader’s mysterious death. This comes a day after the Goa Police confirmed that Sonali’s personal assistants, Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Singh, mixed an “obnoxious substance” in water and forced her to drink it. The assistants were apprehended and charged with murder. Sonali Phogat’s death brings Goa’s ‘Curlies’ back into the spotlight after a 14-year absence.
Sonali Phogat’s death case unfolded from a heart attack to murder.
1. On August 23, Sonali Phogat was declared dead in Goa. It was reported that she died of a heart attack.
2. Her family members expressed concern about her death, claiming that she was too fit to have a heart attack. Her family members said she complained of uneasiness and hinted at something fishy on Monday night.
3. Sonali Phogat’s brother claimed that she had no intention of visiting Goa on those dates because her shoot was scheduled for August 24, but the booking was made in advance by her personal assistants.
4. Her family members demanded a CBI investigation into her death, and a political squabble erupted after the police initially insisted that she died of a heart attack despite the fact that there were no signs of injury on her body.
5. The family agreed to an autopsy in Goa on the condition that the procedure be videotaped. According to the autopsy report, she had blunt injury marks on her body.
6. Her body was transported to Haryana, where her final rites were performed on Friday.
7. The Goa Police revealed on Friday, based on CCTV footage from the Curies restaurant, that Sonali Phogat was forced to drink spiked water. The video shows Phogat staggering out of the restaurant, unable to walk on her own.
8. According to the Press report, the restaurant’s owner, Edwin Nunes, has also been detained.
9. The motive for the murder is unknown, but economic gain could be a factor, according to a police officer.
10. According to Sonal’s brother, two years ago, her friends tried to poison her and sexually assaulted her.
For “Curlies,” controversy is nothing new
Sonali Phogat and her two assistants went to the renowned Curlies restaurant on Goa’s Anjuna beach on Monday night. She was informed that the restaurant employs a Haryana native whom they wanted to meet. This is not the first time the restaurant’s name has made the news. Scarlett Eden Keeling, a British teen, was reported to have been taken to Curlies shortly before she was found dead on the beach in 2008.
