SC To Hear Plea On Jahangirpuri Demolition On Thursday

The Supreme Court on Wednesday stalled the anti-encroachment drive by authorities in the violence-hit Jahangirpuri area in Delhi. The apex court is scheduled to take up the matter for hearing on Thursday again.
The SC had ordered maintaining of status quo concerning the demolition of buildings in Jahangirpuri in north Delhi that had witnessed violent clashes, including stone-pelting, arson, and firing, between two communities during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on Saturday.
Bulldozers started razing shops and other structures in the violence-hit area creating havoc-like situation in the national capital.
While the BJP-ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation termed the anti-encroachment drive a routine exercise, Opposition alleged that it was a demolition of India’s constitutional values which targeted the poor and minorities.
