Modi also urged people to use the tricolor as their profile picture on social media platforms from August 2 to 15, noting that August 2 is the birth anniversary of Pingali Venkayya, the designer of the flag.

The prime minister expressed his delight that the Mahotsav has evolved into a mass movement, with people from all walks of life and from all sections of society taking part in various programmes across the country.

“When India celebrates 75 years of independence, we will all witness a splendid and historic moment,” he said, referring to August 15.

It is the current generation’s good fortune to witness the 75th anniversary of Independence Day.

“Had we been born during the era of slavery, how would we have imagined this day?” he said, adding that the most important message that all events being organised in the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ are that countrymen should follow their duty with complete devotion.

“Only then will we be able to realise the dream of those innumerable freedom fighters and build the India of their dreams,” he said.

Modi also praised Indian athletes for performing “exceptionally well” at a number of international events, claiming that the month of July has been jam-packed with sporting events.
