Prophet remark row: SC clubs and transfers all FIRs against Nupur Sharma to Delhi Police

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court consolidated and transferred to Delhi all FIRs filed against expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma in connection with her alleged hate speech against Prophet Mohammad. During the hearing, the Supreme Court stated that Nupur Sharma’s protection from arrest would continue in all pending and future FIRs until the investigation was completed.

The Supreme Court also stated that its order would apply to any new FIRs filed after Wednesday’s order. The decision comes as a relief to Nupur Sharma, who had requested that the cases against her be transferred to Delhi.

In response to the Supreme Court decision, former Attorney General Vikas Singh stated that the FIRs in the Nupur Sharma case were filed in multiple states. As a result, the decision to club FIRs could only be made by the SC, not the HCs. Majeed Memon, leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and a lawyer, stated that the Supreme Court decision is logical given that no accused can be punished more than once for the same crime.

Why hasn’t she been arrested yet? Rashid Alvi of Congress

Meanwhile, Rashid Alvi of the Congress Party questioned why Nupur Sharma had not been arrested “yet.” “So far, no legal action has been taken (against Nupur Sharma). SC previously stated that whatever is happening in this country is due to her. Why hasn’t she been arrested yet?” Alvi stated to Times Now.

Sharma’s alleged remarks against Prophet Mohammed during a television debate sparked a political uproar, and several people, including many opposition leaders, demanded that she be prosecuted. The BJP was quick to distance itself from the remarks, stating that Sharma did not hold any office in the Government of India.
