PM Modi is set to inaugurate the pedestrian-only Atal Bridge over the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, later today.

Later today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the Sabarmati River pedestrian-only Atal Bridge in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The famous bridge, which is 14 metres wide and nearly 300 metres long, bears the name of the late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) also shared a video of the famous bridge with the following commentary: “As we open the Atal Bridge’s doors, the Sabarmati Riverfront, our prized possession, only gets better. The contemporary marvel will be electronically inaugurated by His Eminence Shri Narendra Modi Ji on Saturday, August 27, 2018.”

The bridge links the upcoming arts and culture centre on the eastern end of the riverfront with the flower garden on the western end. The bridge is built to be accessible from both the lower and upper riverfront walkways or promenades, according to a release, according to PTI. It has LED lighting and an attractive design.

In addition to pedestrians, cyclists can cross the river on the bridge. According to reports, 2,600 metric tonnes of steel pipes were used to construct the bridge, and the roof is covered in vibrant fabric. In the meantime, stainless steel and glass were used to construct the railing.
