BHUPENDRA PATEL TO TAKE OATH AS GUJARAT CM
Patel resigned as chief minister and his entire cabinet on Friday, clearing the way for the formation of a new government in the aftermath of the election results. On Saturday, Patel was elected as the legislative party’s leader. He met with the governor and staked his claim to form the next administration.
Patel won the Ghatlodia seat by the widest margin in the elections, with 1.92 lakh votes. Patel, a low-profile BJP leader and the first from the Kadva Patidar sub-group to become Chief Minister, took over from Vijay Rupani in September 2021. This will be Patel’s second term as Gujarat’s chief minister. The BJP won a record 156 seats in the 182-member House in the recently concluded Gujarat Assembly elections, with counting taking place on December 8.
The BJP hasn’t lost a state election in Gujarat since 1995. The Congress won 17 constituencies and in its maiden fight in the state, the Aam Aadmi Party won 5.
