HANDICAPPED NATION WITH GREAT INVENTIONS

ALARM OF THE WEEK

10 years ago, there were many parents who never had to put any effort into getting their children to be active. Most children were persistently in frequent motion. But things have completely become contradictory these days, at present even young children are inactive and more dependent upon adults to provide them with different forms of exercise such as sport.

It’s the result of these scenarios across the globe that a tragic result came forward.

After studying the daily physical activity of 1 million people in the world, the World Health Organization has reached a worrisome conclusion. Based on this sample, its conclusion is that the physical activity of 140 million people worldwide is very low.

INDIA STANDING LOW, LOOKING HIGH

77,000 Indians were involved in a sample of 19 lakh people. The study concludes that India has 24.7% male and 43.3% women, who do not believe in performing any sort of activity. On average, 34 percent of the total population makes very little effort to keep their health healthy. So little that many diseases have either taken them in their fist or are waiting to take them. In the case of physical inactivity, as per this study, India stands on 52nd position in the world, while the people of China, Pakistan, Nepal, and Myanmar present in our neighborhood are taking more care of their health.

REFERRING ARCHIVAL

Before this, the World Health Organization conducted this study in 2001 and then India’s inactivity was 32 percent. That is, this time compared to the last time, Indian consciousness has come down towards poor health. This negligence on health becomes even more worrisome when we find that year after year we are becoming such a country of the world, where the number of youth is highest but they are not aware of their health.

WHO’S RESPONSIBLE?

India spends only 1.25 percent of its GDP on health, while Afghanistan, on the verge of almost devastation, spends 8.2 percent on this item. But in this case one cannot blame the government directly, because taking care of health, keeping body fit for work is the personal responsibility of the person at first. Elderly anyhow perform this responsibility, but there is least tendency in the youth who is completely absorbed in mobile phones and laptops, of regular exercise and active workout.

PROVOKING REALIZATION

Most foreign countries are obsessed with running early in the morning and taking care of the health, there are other countries that are gym freaks. But India neither has the runners nor the gym freaks, a minimal life of India’s ancient tradition, yoga is left in the country, but its negligible presence hardly matters as it also does not have many takers.

The India Youth Survey 2017 reveals that most youngsters in India do not exercise regularly or monitor their diet. Statistics states that about 70% of people do not exercise regularly and 62.5% say that they do not monitor their diet.

“The impact of this will be huge. We already have a huge burden of diabetes, hypertension and heart diseases. Obesity and stressful lifestyle mean more and more people will get these diseases. Exercise and diet are two important variables that can be modified by individuals to lead a healthy lifestyle.” -Sandhya Pandey, the chief clinical nutritionist at Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurgaon

India has the maximum population who are counted among the youth across the globe, but it is this youth who have turned out to be immensely lazy. Different technologies like mobile phones and laptops have become the substitute for the physical activity. Screen time is evil! But also: Technology is essential to kids’ future achievement and a necessary part of their education.

PARENTING iPad GENERATION

Unchecked and unfiltered, screen-time can be hazardous for kids. It has clear health repercussion, in that it affects sleep, or prevents kids from engaging in physical activity, thereby further contributing to India’s rising childhood obesity rates. It can worsen mental health issues, and maintain social isolation. And studies have revealed that young children who are screen users manifest higher rates of aggression. Online apps and games, which are created with the fixed intent to attract and hook their users, are especially addictive for kids.

So basically, we were introduced to technologies and machines to ease down our work but in return, it completely made us handicapped as our lives have turned out to be incomplete without machines. Earlier when there was no invention of idiot have been availed with inventions like mobile phones and laptops that adds a cherry on the cake in spoiling our physical health.

The need of the hour is to generate a realization among the youth so that they start implementing the steps required for good health.
