G20: India To Host Summit In New Delhi On September 9 and 10, 2023

G20: The G20 or Group of Twenty is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies.

G20 summit: The G-20 summit will be held in New Delhi on September 9 and 10, 2023. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday, India is scheduled to host over 200 G20 meetings across the country in a year.

The Group of Twenty, also known as the G20, is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies. It is made up of 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States) and the European Union (EU). The G20 represents 85% of global GDP, 75% of international trade and two-thirds of the global population, making it the premier forum for international economic cooperation.

The G20 Presidency has a tradition of inviting some Guest countries and International Organizations (IOs) to its G20 meetings and Summit, in addition to G20 Members. As a result, in addition to regular International Organizations (UN, IMF, World Bank, WHO, WTO, ILO, FSB and OECD) and Chairs of Regional Organizations (AU, AUDA-NEPAD and ASEAN), India, as G20 Presidency, will invite Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and UAE as Guest countries, as well as ISA (International Solar Alliance), CDRI (Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure).

President Draupadi Murmu stated last week that G-20 multilateral cooperation should be based on the principles of inclusion, flexibility and diversity. The President expressed confidence that during India’s presidency, the G-20 Forum will move forward with an aspiration to make efforts to further strengthen multilateralism and global governance, in the direction of building a peaceful, sustainable and prosperous world for all.
