The External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, has recently warned against forced population control in India. Since independence, the population of India has increased considerably. The demographic structure of India has also witnessed a decline in the total fertility rate.
The recent report by the UN World Population Prospect (WPP) has forecasted India to become the most populous country by 2023. If the UN WPP reports are to be believed, India might surpass China in the list of world’s most populous countries. China currently has a population of 140 crore.
With the current demographic structure, India can easily surpass the population stats of China by the end of 2023. Reports suggest that India is forecasted to reach a population count of 150 crore by the end of 2023. “Forced population control can have really dangerous consequences, it can create a major and irreversible gender imbalance,” S. Jaishankar mentioned.
The External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar also lauded the efforts of honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi for strengthening the foreign policy of India. The minister cited a recent example of Israel, how the honourable Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has worked to improve and strengthen India’s relations with Israel.
Jaishankar mentioned how in the past, for some political reasons, India couldn’t enhance its cordial relations with Israel. He also mentioned how Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was the first Indian Prime Minister who went to Israel. “The time when we used to keep national interests aside for vote bank politics has gone,” The External Affairs Minister, said.
S. Jaishankar also lauded Modi’s ‘neighbourhood first’ policy and appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his striking efforts to improve the foreign policy of India. The Minister acknowledged that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the world has started recognising the core beliefs and confidence of India. Furthermore, he also lauded Modi’s government for maintaining phenomenal foreign relations during the first term of Modi’s leadership.
According to some internal sources, discussions about introducing a population control bill in India are getting popular. The population control bill will focus on the small families of the country by providing them with aid in various ways, including education and employment opportunities. Population control is currently being criticised by the opposition parties and is yet to become a law in India.
