Exclusive interview of Devkinandan Thakur with Garima Singh

We would like to know a real definition of religion from you. What precisely is “Religion”?

See, only going to temples and religious places will do nothing. Infact, respect your elders, religion and country, follow the concept of “Atithi devo bhawa”, be welcoming, be clean hearted, do not get jealous, do not indulge in any foul activity, do not be a cause of pain, instead be a source of joy for all, and thank God for everything you have. So, religion is humanity! This can be better understood with Goswami Tulsidas ji’s shlokh in his epic

“Manas”,
“parhit saris dharm nahi bhai,
par peeda sam nahi admai||”

You have been talking about cultural terrorism. What is it, where did it originate from and are the people who are responsible for rectifying it successful in playing their roles vitally?

This is my point. The ones who had the authority to rectify these invasions and attacks were themselves into it. They were enjoying it. And for this reason we still are reaping what was sowed then by them. And I am worried and scared for the day when youth will drift far away from the family values.

If not abolish, how can we really stagnate this drift?

I would request the modern parents to make their child open for education of all such inspiring heroes like whom they want their child to be. Just wondering your child to be like Rama or Shrawan Kumar would not help, instead make them practiced with their ideals and ethics.

The knowledge of the Geeta, Ramayana, and all other epics somehow brings a sense of detachment from the perpetual life. How do you think one can strike a balanced approach?

It is all about, “Time management is life management”. Add values to your life by dedicating at least a couple of hours in reading our marvelous historic works like the Geeta and Vedas. Infact, I had read the last day that “Geeta” has been included in the compulsory education in Netherlands and in many parts of Europe people are reading it. Same goes with the Vedas, as in Japan many researches are being carried out on them. So, why such morals and culture are loosing their importance here in India, which ironically is their mother! Hence, Hinduism is nothing but developing personality which is rich in culture.

As our society today is flooded with many misleading preachers, so how can one be guided towards the right “Guru”?

A real “Guru” will never ask you to praise and worship himself, instead a Guru’s foremost responsibility is to take every unknown to the absolute, the almighty. So, follow the one who motivates you towards the path of the almighty and humanity.
