“UNOFFICIAL” IMPROVEMENT WITH CHINA

The preponderance of foreign visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi always draws attention for discussion but in recent two days visit of china, PM Modi made another record with his name in regard to visiting china which is more than any other Prime Minister of India. In four years of his tenure so far he has been to china four times, whereas, since 2014 chinese president Jinping visited India once. Even though in this meeting between Modi and Jinping there are many noticeable points, to be considered for the first time. First time no press conference occurs after meeting between leaders of India and China, first time Narendra Modi met with xi Jinping directly, whereas in past, he had to meet with Prime Minister of China before meeting Jinping. It is supposed that perhaps due to this city of wuhan chosen for meeting so that there would be no matter of breaching the protocol. PM modi seem to have become complacent, he added, I am the first Indian Prime Minister for whom Jinping came outside the capital.

Even if this meeting between two leaders took place as an informal summit but acrimony between India and China seem to have waning after 73 days long stand off in Doklam in June 2017.

India and China, in these two countries 40 persent of world population live and there are many issues on that India and China have discrepancies and tension. Many times China has shown support to Pakistan and opposes India overlooking the international community. But today question arises, is China showing inclination to India because Jinping understood Modi’s winnability for 2019 and also US-India relationship getting stronger?

China wish to change in India’s position on OROB, Tibet and Dalai lama and also entails support of India in tackle the challenges in South China Sea region. On the other hand India desirous to find support on the issue of membership in NSG and UNSC and also India’s anticipation for china support in dispute over OROB. Jinping nown ca be president for life term, so, it is assumed that there is no other option before India than making relation strong with Jinping .

But in present context, the priority of Indian leadership should be to mitigate the trade deficit of country with china, the fact is that investment of china in India is 10.68 lakh crore, but other hand in terms of trade india has been in state of worrisome, India imports from china of 3.5 lakh crore in a year but china imports from India worth of 1.06 lakh crore.

The economy of China is five times bigger than India and one rule exist everywhere that the economic power will have the right to take decision. India need to assimilate this rule and should be pragmatic, India need to go forward corroding the tensions and should work for betterment of its economy and trade deficit with China .

The outcome of this recent visit will be assessed after 9-10 june meeting, when the two Leaders may again meet in Qingdao city of China for SCO, if PM Modi visit for SCO meet. Till then this delusion will be conducive for thought that the relation between both countries is improving.
