Will Jacqueline Fernandez go to jail?

It’s been more than 400 days since the Delhi Police arrested conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar in a fraud case. As known, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) also questioned the Sri Lanka-born actor Jacqueline for the first time in the case.

Jacqueline Fernandez occurred before the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing for questioning. She has been named as accused by the ED in the money laundering case. Further, the actress is under examination by Delhi Police to ascertain whether she had been a part of the extortion racket achieved by Chandrashekhar.

Meanwhile, Sukesh Chandrasekhar is impeached in nearly 30 cases by different investigative agencies. He is also accused of defrauding a businessman’s wife while he was lodged in jail. His biggest heist came between June 2020 and May 2021, when sitting in Delhi’s Rohini jail, he conned the wife of a jailed industrialist, creaming off more than Rs 200 crore from her.

His modus operandi was a tried-and-tested posing as a senior government official over the phone. Further, he would ask for money in return for a favor. In the example of the jailed industrialist’s wife, the jailed conman, in front of the Union law secretary, took advantage of the pandemic to tell her that her husband was being deemed for a place on a committee to fight Covid-19. He allegedly said to her that she could contribute to party funds, and consequently, to his bail.

While investigating this case, law agencies stumbled on the fraudster’s other propensity, lavishing gifts on Jacqueline. However, the question arises will the actress go to jail?

According to a charge sheet prepared by the ED, which is also investigating him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, Chandrasekhar spent over Rs 7 crore between February 2021 and August 2021 on gifts for actress Jacqueline Fernandez and her family. It is to be said that believes the duo had a romantic relationship, based on some intimate photographs. Jacqueline has denied the claim, but Sukesh hasn’t.

Further, in a letter published to the media in December 2021, Sukesh alleged, “Jacqueline and I were in a relationship, seeing each other, and the relationship was not based on any kind of monetary benefits like the way it’s projected…the relationship has lots of love and respect for each other without any expectations.”

As per the report, he allegedly tried to date four other actresses—Nora Fatehi, Bhumi Pednekar, Sara Ali Khan, and Janhvi Kapor. However, the ladies did not fall for his inducements.

Meanwhile, Nora Fatehi has also been named as a witness in the case, and Jacqueline is the only actor who has been named as an accused. According to the evidence collected by the ED, she is the only actor who was in touch with Sukesh for a little over six months until he was arrested by the Delhi Police on August 8, 2021.

During this period, she learned about her criminal past Sukesh, but Jacqueline Fernandez proceeded to receive gifts worth crores from the conman. The ED has alleged that she was the successor of the proceeds of the crime, but the Delhi Police wants to know if the actor was part of the conspiracy or not. If Delhi Police finds evidence against her, then she will be named as the accused in the case else the actor will become a witness in the case against Chandrashekhar. Delhi Police is in the process of filing a supplementary charge sheet against Sukesh.
