Prakash Jha criticizes bollywood for endorsing tobacco products.

Filmmaker Prakash Jha, who has made and delivered some iconic and energy-packed movies like Gangajal, Rajneeti, recently took a dig at the leading actors of Bollywood. Filmmaker Prakash Jha rose to fame after the release of Bobby Deol starrer Ashram on an OTT platform.

The Ashram filmmaker is best known for his unabashed and opposing views about the dynamics of Bollywood. In one of his recent interviews with a media agency, Jha took a dig at the leading actors of Bollywood and their stardom.

Jha spoke about how overwhelming it is for Bollywood stars to earn crores of rupees by endorsing tobacco and glorifying a detrimental and harmful culture of substance abuse by doing gutkha advertisements.

When asked about his view on Bollywood and its declining trend of ‘stardom’, Jha said “Why will they work in my films when they get Rs. 50 crores for doing one gutkha ad?”

While he shared his views on the current trends of stardom in Bollywood, the Rajneeti filmmaker also took a sly dig at the acting calibre of the leading actors in the film fraternity and, said :

“There are 5-6 actors. Look at the condition of those actors. Why will they work in my films when they get Rs. 50 crores for doing one gutkha advertisement? The actors are selling gutkha. Can you imagine? What are these top, legendary actors doing?”

The disappointed filmmaker urged the people who are at a higher hierarchy in the Bollywood film industry to sit together and give this a thought.

Furthermore, Prakash Jha shared how actors today are in a rush to make money. He mentioned how an actor who has delivered 5 flops is still making crores of money from doing advertisements.

Talking about the inevitable downfall of the Bollywood cinema, the filmmaker mentioned how earlier people used to make movies with a lot of passion, regardless of whether the movie would do good or bad at the box office.

The filmmaker mentioned how a few decades back, a team of the movie used to put their heart and soul into the making of the movie. The filmmaker claimed that all of that is completely gone now.

“They have corporate funding that they want to utilise. Unless and until a star doesn’t sign their films, their work won’t move ahead. Even if the star signs with them, they don’t have original subjects so they get remake rights. This is what has been happening for the past few years.” Prakash Jha added.
