House of the Dragon trailer OUT NOW- Watch Here!!
Majestic dragons and fierce female characters making it an intriguing prequel to Game of Thrones

Let’s face it: the Game of Thrones series finale disappointed the majority of us, if not all of us. The finale was so anticlimactic and underwhelming that some of us didn’t want to return to George RR Martin’s epic fantasy world – at least not for a while. However, three years after the disappointing Game of Thrones finale, HBO has returned with the prequel House of the Dragon. It is not an exaggeration to say that the trailer piqued the interest of everyone who has watched Game of Thrones for the last 8 years or so – and gave them hope that the House of the Dragon might actually work – It has fierce female characters and majestic dragons that look every bit as stunning and breathtaking as earlier seasons of GoT.
And the knives came out in spades! In many ways, the House of the Dragon trailer will make you nostalgic for the previous seasons of Game of Thrones. The character arcs, double-crossing, hand-to-hand combat, and bloodlust are oddly reminiscent of the hit show in which Westeros’ Kings and Queens would go to any length to sit on the Iron Throne. While watching the trailer, viewers can sense the Targaryens’ sheer anxiety and desperation to sit on the Throne. The sound of ‘thundering hooves, splintering shields, and ringing swords’ will remind you how far the characters will go for the Iron Throne and how little human life, as we know it, means to them. Add to that the majestic and roaring dragons flying over cities spewing fire and inspiring fear in the hearts of common folk, and you have the near-perfect, nail-biting, and suspenseful George RR Martin fantasy series.

Otto Hightower: Our hearts remain as one…
Alicent Hightower: Our hearts were never one
The above exchange between the Hightowers demonstrates that, like Game of Thrones, characters in House of the Dragon will betray and backstab those closest to them. The desire for power will put loyalties, love, and emotions to the test, and only those willing to be ruthless will survive, and no one will be spared. In many ways, the ruthlessness and borderline insanity that comes with the bloodlust for the Throne is what propelled GoT to global fame, and House of the Dragon has done an admirable job of bringing this mercilessness to life – with characters who are soft-hearted enough to invest in relationships but cold-hearted enough to break them if necessary It maintains the suspense and keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats as they try to figure out what these characters will do next. Much like in Game of Thrones, it appears that no character is indispensable or immune to being killed off in House of the Dragon.
Powerful Female Characters
Rhaenys Targareyan: A woman will not inherit the Iron Throne. Because that is the order of the things
Rhaenyra Targareyan: When I am queen, I will create a new order.
This exchange demonstrates that powerful female characters in House of the Dragon are just as ruthless and devious as their male counterparts, if not more so. Women like Rhaenys, Rhaenyra, and Alicent are from the Middle Ages, so they live in a patriarchal and misogynistic society where women do not have half the agency that men do. But that doesn’t stop these women from dreaming big and aspiring to sit on the Iron Throne, despite everything working against them, from the system to the men around them. While her mother constantly criticises her, Rhaenyra confidently declares that she will “break the order” and become the first Queen to sit on the Iron Throne. It also demonstrates how Rhaenyra paved the way for women like Cersei and Sansa, who appear much later in the Game of Thrones series, and made it acceptable for a woman to aspire to the Iron Throne. To begin, one must dare to dream big, no matter how difficult or impossible it may be to make it a reality. Those who believe they can change the world are the ones who succeed, and Rhaenyra Targareyan did just that.
It remains to be seen how HoD will pique viewers’ curiosity and interest while meeting the standard set by GoT. However, based on the trailer, the show appears to be going out with a bang.
