In response to the current violent and inhumane trolling, many celebrities have made the decision to permanently end their online presence on Twitter.
Here’s a list of Indian celebrities who chose to turn their back on Twitter after being subjected to inhuman trolling and ruthless criticism:
1. Aayush Sharma: The actor who married Salman Khan’s sister, Arpita Khan, is well known for his remarkable performance in the movie “Antim: The Final Truth”. Aayush decided to leave Twitter after being subjected to inhuman trolling and brutal nepotism remarks. Before quitting Twitter, the star took to his official Instagram account and wrote, “280 characters are less to define a human being. But 280 characters are more than enough to spread fake news, hatred and negativity. Didn’t sign up for this nasty herd mentality. Khuda hafiz.”
2. Sonakshi Sinha: The Dabang actress chose to bid a sudden goodbye to Twitter after facing a nepotistic backlash due to Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death. Being a daughter of iconic Bollywood actor, Shatrugan Sinha and having a godfather like Salman Khan in the Bollywood industry, Sonakshi was brutally subjected to the hatred regarding nepotism in the Bollywood industry that allegedly killed SSR. Before quitting Twitter, the actress took to her official Instagram account and wrote, “The first step to protecting your sanity is to stay away from negativity. And nowhere more of that than Twitter these days. Chalo I’m off—deactivating my account. Bye guys, peace out. Aag lage basti mein… mein apni masti mein! Bye Twitter.”
3. Zaheer Iqbal: The actor who made a debut in acting with the movie ‘Notebook’ is rumoured to be dating Sonakshi Sinha, although the actor didn’t officially announce his withdrawal from Twitter, he left the platform shortly after Sonakshi Sinha. According to sources, Zaheer Iqbal took the step to support his rumoured girlfriend, Sonakshi Sinha.
4. Karan Johar: The legendary director of the Bollywood industry called it quits recently on October 10. The director, who is also known as the ‘root of nepotism’ in the Bollywood industry, received a lot of hatred and negative comments after the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. His show, Koffee With Karan season 7, also faced a lot of negative criticism on Twitter. Before giving up his online presence, the director posted his last tweet that read, “Making space for more positive energies only and this is step one towards that. Goodbye Twitter!”
5. Aamir Khan: Aamir Khan’s withdrawal from Twitter came out as a major shock to his fans. Khan has always been looked upon as the perfectionist of the Bollywood industry. The Sarfarosh actor, Aamir Khan, chose to leave Twitter in the year 2021, shortly after his birthday. Before bidding goodbye to the social media, the perfectionist left a note for his fans revealing the reason for his sudden withdrawal from social media. Aamir mentioned that he wants to focus on his work and would want to dedicate himself to his art form, acting, completely.
