Friday Flashback: Sonali Bendre Recalls How Her Battle with Cancer Brought Her ‘The Much Anticipated’ Attention from the Media

The versatile Bollywood actress, Sonali Bendre, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in the year 2018. The iconic actress not only battled with the deadly disease but also came out victorious. In one of her recent interviews, the actress recalled her battle journey with cancer in 2018, when the doctors had declared that the chances for the actress to survive were only 30%.

The actress battled the disease with her ‘one day at a time’ mind set and inspired millions of women succumbing to the disease of breast cancer all over the world.

Discussing the unexpected odds, Bendre mentioned that the news came out as a shock. It was something that the actress could never have imagined. The actress further revealed that when she went for treatment after the diagnosis of stage 4 cancer, the doctors in New York told her there were only 30% chances of her survival.

Sonali Bendre, a noted Bollywood actress, has played phenomenal roles in many blockbusters, including Hum Sath Sath Hain, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Sarfarosh, Aag, Diljale and so many more. The brave cancer survivor has also adjudged multiple reality shows in the TV industry including Hindustan Ke Hunarbaaz, India’s Got Talent, India’s best dramebaaz.

The actress recently essayed the character of a news anchor in her latest project, The Broken News. When the media asked Bendre about her perception of the media and how it focused on her health while she was battling cancer, the actress replied “I feel where I’m concerned, I found a lot of empathy from everybody, and that includes the media. I just got a lot of love.

Sonali Bendre further mentioned in her career of so many years, there have been multiple ups and downs. The actress also spoke about the time when she had a few clashes with the media and added that she was grateful about how her illness and her battle with cancer was the time when most of the media held her back and made sure her name didn’t disappear from the industry overnight.

I’ve had a career which has been spanned so many years. So most definitely, there have been times when [the] media has been upset with me”. The Sarfarosh actress then shared, “I think my illness was the time where most of the media really came behind me.

Sonali Bendre is all set to make a competitive comeback in the industry with her latest venture, The Broken News, which is an eight-episode web series that will be released on Zee5.

The Hum Sath Sath Hain actress will be seen playing the role of a TV news anchor in the series. The web series also features Jaideep Ahlawat and Shriya Pilgaonkar playing pivotal characters in the story.
