No doubt that acting is a profession that requires immense versatility and willingness to test boundaries. Sometimes in the act of immersion things are done that the actor himself would never even ponder, yet it needs to be played with a similar naturalist. Often this risk attempt pays off with critically acclaimed performances that receive applauds for years or even becomes cinematic history. Sometimes it also results in a complete nightmare for everyone involved. Here are a few examples for the same:
Kate Winslet’s autograph torment
Titanic has marked its presence in the history of romantic movies. It’s a massively successful romantic dramatization of the sinking of the titular ship. It involves many epic scenes including a scene in which Kate Rose character asks Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack to “draw me like one of your French girls.” Yet even now crazily obsessive fans try to get her to sign pictures of herself naked, and she’d like that to stop.
“I don’t sign that picture. It feels very uncomfortable. Why would you do that?” –Kate Winslet
She finds herself bemused by why people are so obsessed with this one particular image decades later.
Taylor Lautner would like his shirt back, please
Taylor Lautner played a character of the werewolf Jacob in the Twilight series. His transformations of lycanthropy were accompanied by the removal of clothes many times, giving his fans a series of opportunities to glance his fit, muscular body. Excessive opportunities than he was ever comfortable with.
“If I had to choose, I would never take my shirt off again in a movie. But I guess that’s not very realistic. I certainly won’t be asking to do it, though.” –Taylor Lautner
Jim Carrey’s Kick-Ass regrets
Jim Carrey played a superhero in the 2013 action-comedy Kick-Ass 2. His character called Colonel Stars and Stripes who are unpleasantly murdered by the supervillain group who become the antagonists of the title character. After a few months when the movie was released he condemned the level of violence.
“I did Kick-Ass 2 a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience, I cannot support that level of violence. My apologies to others involve[d] with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.” –Jim Carrey
Jennifer Lawrence’s drenched sex scene
Science fiction adventure film Passenger stars Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. The movie couldn’t do well despite of that megawatt cast, partially thanks to the revelation of a crucial plot twist that makes the film notably darker than it looks.
The disturbing fact that a pivotal plot point involves a disquieting disregard for the consent and personal autonomy of one of the characters isn’t helped by Lawrence admitting she spent the sex scenes too drunk to remember doing them.
“I got really drunk. But that led to more anxiety because I was like ‘What have I done? I don’t know’… And it was gonna be my first time kissing a married man and the guilt is the worst feeling in your stomach.” –Jennifer Lawrence
Margot Robbie gets slimy
Harley Quinn is one of the best characters of a dull movie, but Margot Robbie had a pretty vexatious time making Suicide Squad. First, there was the scanty outfit that made her feel “self-conscious.” Along with those spiky gold bangles that she immensely hated because she accidentally kept herself poking with them throughout. But with that, she also revealed about the scene that she said was her least favorite and she hated.
“That chemical [scene] was the most unpleasant thing I’ve ever done in my entire life.” –Margot Robbie
It was all done to prove her devotion to the Clown Prince of Crime, but behind the scenes, she was totally frustrated.
Robbie described the fluid as “gluggy paint stuff” that went inside her ears and nose.
“I was choking on it underwater, and I couldn’t breathe, and I tried to open my eyes, and it would glaze over my eyeballs, and I could only see white. It was horrible.” –Margot Robbie
Fifty shades of grey was nightmare for everyone involved
The day Fifty Shades of Grey was released it became the talk of the town. Novels character of Christian Grey is played by Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson plays Anastasia Steele, basically a woman who submits to his interests, desire and impulse. Instead of more traditional romance and sex dynamics, a lot of the erotic tension is played out in bondage; many scenes were not very fun to act out like playing domination and torture scene. Shooting the scene naturally meant Johnson to be tied up for hours, blindfolded miming being struck with a whip
“Filming a sex scene is not a sensual or pleasurable environment. It’s really hot — not in a steamy, sexual way. It’s just sweaty and it’s not very comfortable.” –Dakota Johnson
Further, she also referred to the experience as “emotionally taxing,” but evolved from being miserable to thinking “Okay, let’s just get this over with.”
