Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently imprisoned in Delhi’s Tihar jail, requested extra protection through his lawyer a day after the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala.
“The accused is a student political leader who has been implicated into multiple false cases registered against him in Punjab and Chandigarh states due to political rivalry and the accused is having apprehensions of a fake encounter by the Punjab Police,” according to the plea filed in Delhi’s Patiala court.
Goldy Brar, a Canadian criminal, claimed responsibility for the death of Sidhu Moose Wala. In a Facebook post, Brar, who has ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, said he killed Moose Wala to avenge the killing of mobster Vicky Middukhera.
Sidhu Moose Wala ran for Punjab assembly in this year’s election on a Congress ticket from Mansa, but was beaten by AAP candidate Vijay Singla by 63,000 votes. Punjab has recently fired Vijay Singla over corruption charges.
Sidhu Moose Wala stirred a controversy last month when his song “Scapegoat” criticised the Aam Aadmi Party and its supporters. In his song, the artist labelled AAP supporters “gaddar” (traitor).
