Priyanka Chopra is gearing up for her next Hollywood project, which has an Indian component. The actress will appear in a romantic comedy in which she will play a Punjabi woman. Priyanka will co-star with Mindy Kaling. This is their first time working together. Mindy spoke with Vogue about co-writing the project and revealed information about Priyanka’s character in the Hollywood film.
Mindy revealed the details of the upcoming Hollywood project, saying that she and Priyanka will play cousins in the romantic comedy centred on a big fat Indian wedding. Priyanka will play her first cousin, who was born and raised in India, while Mindy will play an Indian-American Bengali.
Minday went on to say, “We’re really proud of it, we show South Asian Americans that are from Southern Indian. Then we show a Muslim Indian girl. Culturally we see how they’re different from each other. The Asian experience is not a monolith. Why would people necessarily know that if they don’t have shows that explain and explore that difference?”
Mindy previously revealed in a 2020 interview that working with Chopra has given her a new perspective on India, and that working with her has changed her love and understanding of the country. Kaling has already received positive feedback for her portrayal of South Asians in her high-school teen drama, Never Have I Ever, which will soon release its third season on Netflix.
