Munawar Faruqui refers to Justin Bieber’s illness in his political joke, faces backlash from fans

Munawar Faruqui, a stand-up comedian, got himself into trouble after sharing a joke on social media. In response to Justin Bieber’s announcement that a viral ailment has temporarily paralyzed one side of his face, the Lock Upp winner joked about India’s political situation. “Dear Justin Bieber, I can totally understand. Even here in india right side not working properly (sic),” he said on social media. Bieber revealed that he had been diagnosed with the Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, a rare disease.

While some fans were pleased to see the ‘purana wala Munawar’ back, others believed he was mocking Bieber’s condition. He was also chastised for making jokes about someone’s suffering.

“Making jokes about someone’s illness just shows how jahil you are… It doesn’t make you funny,” wrote a social media user, while another added, “Wtf?? What’s so funny about this, u think making a joke about somebody’s illness is funny?” With many of his followers including actors Prince Narula and Pragati Mehra laughed on his post, another user mentioned how the joke wasn’t funny. They wrote, “You all think this is funny????”

Justin Bieber, for the uninitiated, recently turned to Instagram to discuss his sickness. Bieber revealed the cause for his repeated gig cancellations by revealing that he has contracted a rare disease known as Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. Bieber revealed in a video that the disease had completely paralyzed his right side of his face. “This eye isn’t blinking, as you can see. On this side of my face, I’m unable to smile… So this half of my face is completely paralyzed,” he explained.
