Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Review
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is a compelling drama that picks up steam right away and successfully maintains the thrills and chills of the previous instalment of the franchise. The horror comedy is a stand-alone picture with a plot that differs significantly from the original.
The film begins with two strangers, Ruhan Randhawa (Kartik) and Reet (Kiara), who meet on a road journey by chance. Reet befriends Ruhan and tells him about her upcoming wedding in Rajasthan. She agrees to attend a music festival at Ruhan’s request, which saves them from a major accident.
The accident makes Reet’s family believe that she is dead. Later, Reet overhears her sister’s conversation with her Fiance where she discovers that her sister and her fiance love each other. To get them together, Reet decides to hide the secret of her being alive.
What works in Kartik Aaryan-Starrer?
Anees Bazmee in every way knows how to weave magic on screens with his hard-hitting comic punches and engaging storyline. Thefilm provides the appropriate amount of humor to the viewers, and all of the pun intended lines were on point and did not appear forced or unneeded.
First and foremost, Tabu, who was the centre of attention throughout the drama, plays up to her role as a dual character. Her shift between the two positions, which are diametrically opposed, is seamless. Her character will lead you on a roller coaster of emotions and excitement, where you will both dislike and like her. She perfectly picks up the Bengali accent.
Furthermore, the chemistry between Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani is a breath of fresh air for the audience, and they did complete justice to their roles. Kartik Aaryan’s performance in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is his best yet, with his comic timing and fantastic punches making the audience laugh and clap throughout. In other words, he has lived up to the audience’s expectations, as his transformation from a happy-go-lucky Ruhan to a possessed and frightening baba is seamless and proves to be a show-stealer. Kiara Advani, on the other hand, manages to win the audience’s hearts with her cheerful character and charming appearance.
Sanjay Mishra and Samarth Chauhan as Potlu surely will capture many hearts with their performances in the film. Rajpal Yadav’s appearance throughout the film makes the viewers nostalgic for the original film.
Dialogues written by Farhad Samji and Aakash Kaushik are crisp and are perfectly delivered by the stellar cast. The background music adds to the nostalgic value. Direction and the cinematography are also taken good care of and it elevates the genre requirements of the film.
What doesn’t work in the film?

The film does not completely do justice to the horror genre as it doesn’t have many jump scare sequences and there is no such specific element that stands out. Moreover, the ghost sequences are not too long to create an impact. Although there are spooky elements in between the scenes, they are not scary and fail to leave any impact. After the ghost finally enters the frame, the second half of the film gets a bit stretched.
Talking about the film’s songs, Shreya Ghoshal’s Ami Je Tomar surely strikes a chord in the hearts of the audience, but other than that all other songs could have been better.
Moreover, there are scenes where a lot of Bengali language is been used which might make the audience feel disconnected. Also, there are parts where the practice of black magic is glorified which might not go well with some of the audience. For instance, Manjulika is seen drinking blood which leads to the feeling of discomfort for the audience. Like every other horror movie, there is a flashback in this one too but the flashback story is common and quite predictable.
Overall Review:
Despite having a predictable plot, the film’s plot is presented in an engaging manner, making the audience feel involved in the story. The film’s turning point is the twist towards the conclusion, where Kartik and Tabu steal the show. Overall, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is likely to bring back all the memories of the original film by retaining the spirit of the ghost figure Manjulika, as well as a gripping narrative and a renowned Bengali song. The picture is entertaining and has a wide appeal, with all of the qualities necessary to draw moviegoers to the theatres.
