Archana Puran Singh Makes a Strong Work Plea after Neena Gupta, says “I’m Dying to Work.”

The Bollywood actress confessed that nobody in the industry is ready to offer her roles, other than comedy.

On the occasion of her 60th birthday, the Bollywood actress Archana Puran Singh chose to open up about the darker side of the Bollywood industry. Ms Briganza of Bollywood, shared how adjudging comedy shows earlier and becoming a part of comedy nights with Kapil Sharma had resulted in ‘the slow death of the actor ‘. The Bollywood actress confessed that nobody in the industry is ready to offer her roles, other than comedy.

Archana Puran Singh is a name that has resonated in the corridors of the entertainment industry for more than 3 decades in a row. Popularly known as Ms Briganza, the character of a college professor played by her in the movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, has also worked in many other classic Bollywood movies including Agneepath (1990), Raja Hindustani (1996), Mohobbatein (2007), De Dana Dan (2009), Bol Bachchan (2012) and many more.

Taking a dig at the stereotyped perception of the Bollywood industry, the veteran actress revealed how, after playing fun characters in the movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and De Dana Dan, she has somehow made people believe that she’s meant only for doing comedy roles. She confessed that as an actor she has been waiting for directors to approach her for ‘serious and worthy roles’.

That chhaap (image) is extremely rigid and solid. Also, a lot of people feel what should they offer me after playing Miss Briganza. It’s been almost 25 years since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was released on the big screen. And the character is somehow still following me. People also feel that I am best suited only for comedy. As an actor, that makes me feel deprived, cheated and I have been left yearning for good roles to play.” Archana Puran Singh, mentioned.

The actress went on and confessed that she’d been dying to do some serious roles. Archana Puran Singh confessed that she has a ‘serious side’ to her acting skills that has remained unexplored. “As an artiste, I am literally dying to perform my art. People have seen just one aspect of my craft. I also have a serious side to my acting skills. I can do so much more than just comedy. As an actor, I can cry and make people cry too. That side of me is yet to be explored but I am quite sure it will happen one day,” she revealed in front of the media.

A few years ago, Neena Gupta, a veteran Bollywood actress, took to her official Instagram account and posted her photographs with a work plea in an extremely humble manner. The Instagram post by the actress caught the attention of every segment of the Bollywood industry. Neena Gupta, was offered so many iconic roles after her work plea on social media, including Badhaai Ho, Sardaar Ka Grandson, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. She was also featured in the web show ‘Panchayat’.

Grabbing some inspiration from Neena Gupta, Archana Puran Singh also decided to break the stereotypes of bollywood and put across her work plea – loud!

People often say that if you keep getting the same roles, it means you are very lucky, that people want to keep watching you. However, I feel the opposite. I feel it’s the death of an actor. I remember Neena Gupta had once posted on social media seeking work. I guess I will take this opportunity to ask for work from directors and producers.” Archana Puran Singh said unapologetically.
