The movie, ‘Thank God’ is the new talk of the town for all the wrong reasons, since the release of its 3-minute trailer. Starring Ajay Devgn, Nora Fatehi, Rakul Preet Singh and Siddharth Malhotra, it is one movie that many fans are looking forward to. But Indra Kumar’s Thank God has landed in a controversy once again.
After Aamir Khan’s movie ‘Lal Singh Chaddha’, Akshay Kumar’s movie ‘Rakshabandhan’ and Taapsee Pannu’s movie ‘Dobaara, the latest movie to join the ongoing boycott trend is Siddharth Malhotra’s ‘Thank God’.
In a three-minute trailer of the movie ‘Thank God’, released on September 9, the story was perceived to be quite gripping and interesting. In this, Siddharth Malhotra comes out as an aggressive man who has somehow reached a state where he is neither alive nor dead. Ajay Devgn enters the movie, playing the role of ‘Chitragupta’, to ‘assess’ Siddharth’s deeds. He asks Siddharth Malhotra to count all the mistakes that he has made in his life. The trailer also shows Nora Fatehi, playing the part of an ‘apsara’ who keeps a check on Siddharth’s lustful spirit.
The story sounds gripping but there’s so much more that goes behind it. The movie has been creating endless controversies since the time its trailer released. Earlier there was a complaint filed against the makers and actors of the movie, Thank God, in Uttar Pradesh.
The latest development in the controversial angle of the movie is that the movie has been accused of hurting religious sentiments. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Karnataka have opposed the trailer and have demanded a ban on the movie. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has accused Bollywood of mocking the gods.
The spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Mohan Gowda, recently spoke about the religious controversy and mentioned, “The actors in the trailer were seen making fun of Hindu deities. We will never tolerate mockery of Chitragupta and Lord Yama of Hinduism in the name of freedom of expression. Was the censor board sleeping till the release of this trailer?”
Furthermore, the National Spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti also added his views to the controversy, mentioning that Bollywood has always worked against Hinduism, whether it’s a movie like P.K or Thank God. He further added that the Hindu deities are always mocked and ridiculed in Bollywood movies.
The movie has been directed by Indra Kumar and produced by Bhushan Kumar. Amid all the controversies, the movie is all set to release in cinemas on October 25, 2022.
