The popularity of social media has majorly increased over the past few years. The world has been overrun by influencers but imagine having a city inhabited entirely by ‘social media influencers.’
According to the media reports, an Indian village in the city of Raipur has successfully become the first village in the world to acquire the name of “YouTube village”.
The village is quite famous for its online content. The village is inhabited by 3,000 people, 1,000 out of which are content creators. Tulsi Village, aka as India’s ‘YouTube village’, has over 50 YouTube channels.
When asked about acquiring the glorifying and unique title of “India’s YouTube village”, one of the local residents of the village, said “As you can see everywhere in our village, people of all ages are artists and make videos for YouTube. So, everyone calls our village a “YouTube village.”
Furthermore, the media reports suggested that filming has become a common profession in the Tulsi Village. The villagers are often seen filming the residents of the village riding a tractor, children racing on the roads and women drawing water from the tube wells. A drone capturing the eagle-eye view of the village, is a common sight for the residents of Tulsi Village now.
When the media asked the YouTubers of Tulsi Village about the kind of content that they create and put out on their YouTube channels, one of the young YouTubers, enthusiastically, responded “Many of them have their own YouTube channels. On the YouTube channels, we are making comedy videos, song-based programmes, and race videos. Almost all kinds of artists are here in our village.”
The content creators of the village have started turning it into a full-time profession. In an interview, the young youtuber of the Tulsi Village mentioned that they have been earning two to three times their previous salary.
Talent has no age limits and the YouTubers from India’s first YouTube village are proving it right. The youngest YouTuber from the Tulsi Village is a young girl of fifteen years, whereas the oldest YouTuber from the village is a grandmother aged around 85 years.
